Sewn Paper Book Cover {Tutorial}

I recently joined a Mom's Bible study group and wanted a new Bible cover for the occasion. I made this one out of 12x12 scrapbook paper. I have a collection of pretty scrapbook paper that I never use because I don't scrapbook. I just can't help myself when I see it in the many gorgeous patterns ; ) I figured I would put some of my pretty paper to good use!

2 -12x12 scrapbook papers (depending on the size if your book)
Sewing machine

First measure the height of your book + 1/2 inch and cut your papers. Next measure the width of the spine of the book you wish to cover.

You will overlap the two pages to the width of your spine and sew together from top to bottom. I used a zig zag stitch.

Now line it up with the spine and fold your paper over the front and back covers and crease. You will sew the fold down by sewing all along the top and bottom. When sewing, I stayed as close to the edge of the paper as I could.

I am now staring down my bookcase dreaming of it filled with pretty coordinating books ; )

Petite Pants {KCWC}

I made the boys a few pairs of pants this week. K's pants are both upcycled from our donate pile. The plaid pair was made from Daddy's old shorts. I kept the pockets and used the existing waistband. The green pair was made from a pair of my (very) old pants.

For both pairs I did a flat front and adjustable waist. I sewed in a wide satin ribbon to the inside waistband and attached two buttons. I found maternity elastic in the craft section at Walmart...seriously how did I not know about this stuff?!? I could have really used this when I was pregnant!

Here are some great tutorials for upcycling pants. Give it a try...I guarantee it will be faster and easier than you think!

The pants I made for D are my own pattern. I love the cute on a waddling toddler!

I finished some cute shirts tonight that I will share with you tomorrow!

Adventures in Pattern Making

I have recently begun attempting to draft my own patterns. I generally sew my own designs, but I have never actually drawn out the patterns I come up with. Here is a vest pattern I am working on. This one for D is the first I have made. It turned out a bit big on him, but I like the style. I am making one for K next and want to add a lining to his. son is pushing a pink doll stroller.  It is actually one of the most fought over toys at our house!

Today is the first day of the Kids Clothes Week Challenge. Are you participating?? Come on and get sewing...just one hour a day of sewing for kids!  I worked on some upcycled pants for K today. What have you been working on lately?
